Despite being somewhat terrifying, Blood Moons are extremely useful in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. They force all previously-killed enemies to respawn, making farming for upgrade materials easier. Here’s how often you’ll see one in the game.
How long must I wait until the next Blood Moon in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
A week! That’s 168 minutes, to be exact. Blood Moons happen every seven in-game days in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, resetting all defeated enemies, ground weapon and equipment spawns, and many resource points. Note that these 168 minutes must be uninterrupted gameplay. You can’t just sit in the pause menu for three hours. (Trust me, I tried.)
While this reset may seem odd (because “why would I go to all that effort just to have things come back to life?”), it’s a fantastic way of earning Rupees by farming materials like gemstones and rare Monster Parts. Not to mention the world would feel incredibly empty if nothing returned once you killed or looted it.
Can I force a Blood Moon to appear in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
Unfortunately, no, you cannot make Blood Moons show up any faster. Nintendo intends for you to wait a full in-game week, so this means you can’t just sleep at an inn or rest by a fire until those seven days pass.
If you’re waiting for the reset to farm a particular material, my best advice would be to go and do something else, like finding the Hylian Shield in Tears of the Kingdom. Otherwise, those 168 minutes are going to be an agonizing wait.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
