Now that we’re halfway through 2023, Oricon released its manga sales ranking for the first six months of 2023. All of the manga on the list are serialized, or were serialized, in a Jump publication. Unsurprisingly considering the popularity of these series, all of them also have anime adaptations. [Thanks, Shonen Jump News!]
The Oricon ranking of the best-selling manga in the first half of 2023, including how many copies sold, are:
- Blue Lock (8,046,032 copies)
- Chainsaw Man (4,492,906 copies)
- Slam Dunk (4,199,966 copies)
- Jujutsu Kaisen (3,757,215 copies)
- One Piece (3,550,097 copies)
- Spy x Family (2,688,171 copies)
- Tokyo Revengers (2,622,078 copies)
- My Hero Academia (1,887,507 copies)
- Oshi no Ko (1,690,722 copies)
- Kingdom (1,569,434 copies)
The revival of Slam Dunk’s popularity likely has to do with the The First Slam Dunk film that came out in late December 2022. Many people enjoyed it; it not only made over 8 billion JPY within Japan, but also was one of the nominees for the 46th Japan Academy Film Prize. Chainsaw Man, Blue Lock, and Oshi no Ko are also series that could have gotten a popularity boost in 2023 thanks to their animated adaptations coming out.
Viz, as the official licensing company for Weekly Shonen Jump, has all of the above series in English as both digital and physical copies. As a reminder, the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will start on July 6, 2023.
