Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki is getting involved in NFTs. Oasys launched its OASYX NFTs. Suzuki is acting in a supervisory role, while GODTAIL creates them.
The announcement offered some initial details about the first batch of Yu Suzuki and GODTAIL NFTs. 10,000 free-to-own characters appeared. These are designed to be used as “metaverse avatars.” In the future, more will appear as part of the collaboration. Some possible uses of those included “fashion items” and “in-game gadgets,” however no game was mentioned.
Oasys also noted some other game companies who are connected to the OASYX NFT project as backers or validators. For example, Bandai Namco Research and Ubisoft appear in both categories. Some “backers” include Netmarble and Square Enix. Sega is also among the “validators.” It didn’t offer details as to how involved each company is.
Square Enix already teased its own NFT project back in November 2022. It confirmed it will launch Symbiogenesis in Spring 2023. Its marketing referred to it as a “collectible art project.”
In addition to the Shenmue series’ third entry, Yu Suzuki is the creator of the new Apple Arcade game Air Twister. That is an on-rails shooter only available on Apple iOS devices and Macs. He hasn’t announced any other upcoming projects yet.
