A new Fire Emblem Engage teaser details Corrin, the protagonist of Fire Emblem Fates. Unlike Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Corrin’s female incarnation appears as an Emblem character this time around.

In Fire Emblem Fates, Corrin was born to the royal family of Hoshido, but was kidnapped and raised as part of the royal family of Hoshido’s longtime foe, Nohr. Following the prologue, Corrin is given a choice of whether to return to Hoshido or continue siding with Nohr in the war between the two kingdoms. Fire Emblem Fates then split the story between two separate releases. The Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright release follows the storyline of Corrin siding with Hoshido, while the Conquest release follows the Nohr plotline. A third route, Revelation was released later as a downloadable expansion.
In Fire Emblem Engage, Corrin (known as “Kamui” in Japanese) is labeled as the “Emblem of Selection.” As an Emblem character, she can support the party with buffs and debuffs that manipulate the terrain and even enemies. Her “Dragon Vein” skill adds special terrain effects for units based on their type. Her Engage weapon, the “Reverse Sword”, flips the familiar weapon triangle, allowing characters that would normally have a disadvantage to turn the tables. Corrin’s “Curse” can halt a targeted enemy and all their closest allies, stopping tightly-packed groups in place. She also has a “Dragon Cannon” ability that pierces enemies that are lined up.
Corrin also converses with Fire Emblem Engage protagonist Alear, from one dragon-connected lead character to another.

In the conversation, she refers to her sheltered upbringing, a situation Alear can relate to.
Fire Emblem Engage launches on the Nintendo Switch on January 20, 2023.
