Shigeru Miyamoto appeared during the September 13, 2022, Nintendo Direct livestream to showcase a very brief Pikmin 4 trailer. At just over half a minute, the trailer mostly consists of the environment that you and your Pikmin will be able to explore. The release window is in 2023, though there is no hint at when exactly.
You can view the Pikmin 4 announcement trailer here:
In the trailer, you can see the underside of a park bench, what looks like an analog stopwatch, and a sleeping Bulborb. An aspect of Pikmin 4 includes seeing the world from the Pikmin’s point of view. Miyamoto did not share any gameplay footage, but he did share a screenshot showing this off. Instead of viewing the Pikmin and a Bulborb from the usual distant angle, the camera was near the ground, closer to where the Pikmin are.
Another aspect the team worked on is “dandori.” Miyamoto explains that because it is easier to control things on the Switch, the player can focus more attention on “strategically planning, deploying, and commanding the Pikmin.”
Aside from announcing Pikmin 4, there was a brief showcase of Pikmin Bloom. This is the Pikmin version of Niantic’s other walking game, Pokemon Go. Miyamoto used his own phone to show how clouds indicated locations he has not gone to yet. He also showed off the special t-shirt he made for Pikmin 4.
Pikmin 4 will come out in 2023 for the Nintendo Switch.
