A Japanese Kabuki show will retell the story of Final Fantasy X. Square Enix is working with TBS to hold the Kabuki theater show. It will take place at IHI Stage Around Tokyo in Toyosu in Spring 2023.
Kikunosuke Onoe V will be the star of the Kabuki show. The actor will also handle the show’s planning and direction. Final Fantasy X producer Yoshinori Kitase also commented how Onoe brought the project to him with much enthusiasm. The cast list will also include more actors like Shido Nakamura II and Matsuya Onoe II.
IHI Stage Around Tokyo has published a teaser trailer for the Final Fantasy X Kabuki show on its YouTube channel. It shows that the large stage background will feature scenic locations from the original game.
The trailer description also noted that this Kabuki show will help celebrate the Final Fantasy series’ 35th anniversary. Square Enix had announced more celebrations for the anniversary, such as Uniqlo t-shirts and the Distant Worlds world tour concert. The latter will take place in many countries, from Japan in August 2022 to the U.S. in March 2023.
The Final Fantasy X Kabuki show will take place in Spring 2023. The original game initially appeared on the PlayStation 2 in 2001. Square Enix has released HD remasters of FFX and its direct sequel, Final Fantasy X-2, on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
