Final Fantasy XIV PS4 Support

Yoshi-P Unsure of How Long PS4 Support Will Last for Final Fantasy XIV

In an interview with Japanese news outlet Gamer, Final Fantasy XIV Producer Naoki Yoshida (also known as Yoshi-P), spoke briefly on the topic of PS4 support for the title. During the February 2022 Letter from the Producer Live, Yoshida revealed that Square Enix will not drop support for the PS4 version of Final Fantasy XIV following the release of the 7.0 expansion and its immediate updates. This information was shared alongside the announcement of a major graphics update the MMORPG will receive sometime in the future. [Thanks, Gamer!]

Yoshida elaborated on this a bit more in the interview and discussed why he decided to share this information. When asked about how long the PS4 version of FFXIV would receive support, Yoshida said this:

I don’t know yet. One of the core tenants of Final Fantasy XIV is to develop for multiple platforms, and have as many people as possible play the game.. With the current situation where the shipment volume of the PlayStation 5 is fairly slow due to the parts shortage, I expect there are many people that want to buy the console but can’t. I made the statement at that time so that players can play with peace of mind.

He also stated that the PS4 version of the game still has room for optimization. Regarding the new graphics, there will be new, high resolution textures and improved shaders once the update rolls out. A preview of these new textures was shown during the Letter from the Producer Live.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PS4, PS5, and PC.
