Square Enix shares Chocobo GP brief details via Twitter from time to time, and the latest has to do with its Story Mode and potential unlocks. There’s a screenshot that teases it and confirms a number of characters will appear.
The announcement confirms that the Chocobo GP Story Mode will act as a tutorial and means to unlock three types of items. Missions will come up as you drive. Both those and placing will get you new racers and cars. (Which makes sense, as you’ll need to meet people before you could race as them.) As you go through the story, you’ll visit new places. That means getting new tracks.
As for the Chocobo GP characters in the screenshot, both Chocobo series mainstays and a familiar Final Fantasy face appear. Standing in a group are a number of people who all appeared in Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon games. From left to right, there’s Chocobo, Shirma, Mog, Camilla (also a Chocobo), Irma, and Cid. On the right is a challenger. It’s Gilgamesh, who appears often in mainline and spin-off Final Fantasy games.
Chocobo GP will appear on the Nintendo Switch worldwide on March 10, 2022. A free trial will be available.
