Play Sonic on TikTok With This Collaboration Effect

TikTok is collaborating with Sega and Dreams Come True on a Sonic the Hedgehog game effect. It is available from January 11, 2022 and appears to be exclusive to Japan. When uploading TikTok videos with the Sonic effect and certain hashtags, you are also eligible for the chance to win exclusive prizes. [Thanks, Gamer!]

As mentioned, the Sonic collaboration is between TikTok, Sega, and the band Dreams Come True. If you use the effect, you can use your face to control Sonic as he runs across the screen. In the background, Dreams Come True’s “Tsugi wa Se~no de! On The Green Hill – Masado & Miwasco Version” plays. This is a version of “Green Hill Zone” with lyrics. Masato Nakamura, the founder and current member of Dreams Come True, worked on “Green Hill Zone” thirty years ago for the first Sonic the Hedgehog game.

Here is an example from the official Sega TikTok account:

As for the prizes, if you upload a TikTok using the Sonic effect and then tag it as #tiktok でゲーム中 or #ソニックラン, you are automatically eligible to enter the draw. The first hashtag is simply “playing games with TikTok,” and the second one is “Sonic run.” Two winners can get a Sonic goods set (T-shirt, towel, mug, can badges, keyholders), whereas eight winners can get one of those five items. This event will end on February 11, 2022.

The TikTok campaign commemorates the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. Other collaborations include one with Monster Hunter Rise, which came out in November 2021. During this event, you could obtain cosmetics that made your character and companions look like Sonic the Hedgehog or Tails.

The Sonic the Hedgehog TikTok effect and event are available until February 11, 2022.
