Ever since Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker early access began on December 3, 2021, congestion became an issue for the game. While countermeasures are in place, frequent updates came in based on it and new error codes. Now Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida offered an additional update on both FFXIV congestion and the 90002 and 90006 error codes people might be getting.
First, Yoshida noted that congestion is still an issue in FFXIV, even though the peak numbers aren’t as high. He mentioned that because some of the fixes in effect mean the wait times are going up, since the team fixed problems that would boot people out. He apologized for the situation. He also promised the team would continue to work on keeping things running smoothly.
As for FFXIV error codes 90002 and 90006, those are two more recent issues. These come up during cutscenes and Yoshida said they are investigating them. Here’s his exact statement regarding them.
We have received several reports of these, which are general network connection errors caused by a disconnection in the internet line. We are currently investigating to see if we missed any factors other than unstable connections on the player’s side, but there is not much information and we haven’t found any problems so far. We will continue our investigation with utmost care and would appreciate it that players also check the stability of their internet lines.
In addition to the congestion and 90002 and 90006 error codes, the update also went over some past ones. Yoshida discussed 2002, 3001, and 4004, which he explained in a prior update.
Finally, the update ended with a commitment to eventually add new logical data centers and worlds. Yoshida cited COVID-19 pandemic-related issues again as reasons for delays. However, he confirmed more will come when they are possible.
Final Fantasy XIV and its Endwalker expansion are now available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. Congestion compensation will consist of free game time.
