FFXIV Endwalker early access began on December 3, 2021, and both error 2002 came up and worlds and servers both went down/ended up full as a result. Square Enix issued updates on each situation. It also offered details on how people should react to each occurrence. Ahead of launch, the company warned congestion could be an issue.
First, FFXIV worlds and servers all appear to be online as of 9:30am ET on December 3, 2021. However, Square Enix did note at 7am ET that some were down. Following an investigation, it confirmed that the volume of people playing due to Endwalker was responsible. It also noted that after identifying zone changing increased traffic load as the issue, it would attempt to address and prevent that problem from happening again.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused, and we will be working quickly to address any similar situations on other Worlds. (2/2)

As for FFXIV error 2002, that Endwalker-related issue is one that people could see more often. This isn’t due to an error on people’s consoles or computers. Rather, it is also related to congestion of the login queue. Square Enix’s advice there is to wait, then try again.
The login server is currently congested and players may see Error 2002 when selecting a character in the Character Selection menu.
Should you encounter Error 2002 when attempting to log in, we apologize for the inconvenience, but ask that you wait a while before trying again.

For those attempting to play, visiting the Lodestone could be helpful. People can check the status of the Japanese, North American, and European data centers there. At the moment all worlds are online. However, in many it is so busy that people are unable to create new characters.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. FFXIV Endwalker early access began today. It will officially launch on December 7, 2021.
