Released in Japan on October 30, 2021, Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night has a new trailer and visual. The film will open in theaters and IMAX in both the United States and Canada on December 3, 2021, and in Australia and New Zealand on December 9, 2021. It will be screened both in Japanese with English subtitles, and with an English dub.

The original series’ cast reprised their roles in the film, which saw Ayako Kono in her first main directorial role at A-1 pictures. Inori Minase (Itsuki Nakano in The Quintessential Quintuplets) joined the cast as Mito, a new character original to the anime.
The new visual for Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night reads “Run, push forward. Tear through the night like a falling star.”
Author Reki Kawahara began the Sword Art Online Progressive series in 2012. Now spanning eight volumes, the story is a retelling of the series’ Aincrad arc. Each volume covers a single floor in the game.
Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night will open in the United States and Canada on December 3, 2021, with tickets now scheduled to go on sale on November 12, 2021. The film opened in Japan on October 30, 2021. A second film, Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of a Dark Dusk, will open in 2022.
