The Hokkaido Prefectural Government has unveiled eight new Pokemon manhole covers featuring Vulpix in both standard and Alolan form. The new covers feature eleven Pokemon varieties in total, including Decidueye, Weavile, Dialga, and Palkia.

The Vulpix-centric Poke Lids will appear in a number of towns throughout the prefecture including Asahikawa, Kushiro, Obihiro, and Abashiri. Hokkaido previously named Vulpix as the prefecture’s Pokemon ambassador and installed a number of Vulpix-themed manhole covers in both 2020 and earlier in 2021.

Currently, twenty-one of Japan’s forty-seven prefectures are taking part in the Poke Lids project, originally created to draw tourism to lesser-known parts of the country. Each manhole cover features unique art with many highlighting particular local attractions. Poke Lids also serve as PokeStops in the Pokemon GO mobile game. In December 2020, a collection of Magicarp manhole covers appeared in Niigata’s Ojiya City, while in August 2021 Fukuoka prefecture received five new Poke Lids depicting Alolan Dugtrio and Gardevoir, among others.

All current Poke Lids and their locations throughout Japan can be seen on the official Poke Lids project website.
