Nintendo warned players of a bug in the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC that occurs when people attempt to remodel villager houses. Specifically, the gameplay issues occur when players remodel houses when their airport gates are open. Nintendo has also offered ways to prevent and fix the issues on its official support page.
#AnimalCrossing: New Horizons players who own the Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise DLC may experience gameplay bugs if they visit Resident Services and ask to remodel a resident’s home while the gates at their airport are open. [1/3]

While Nintendo doesn’t describe what exactly the gameplay bugs look like, it recommends that players remodel homes with their airport gates closed. It also states that the bug should not occur as long as the players keep airport gates closed. Furthermore, the bug does not affect vacation homes in the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise DLC.
Nintendo urges players encountering the bug to end the play session and close the game. Nintendo adds that the bug will not affect save files. Additionally, Nintendo states that it will issue a patch for the bug later this month.
Below are the cases where the bug does not occur, via the Nintendo Support page:
The error does not occur in the following cases, so you will be able to play the game without issue:
- If the gates at the airport are open but you have not asked Tom Nook about remodeling a resident’s home.
- If you ask Tom Nook about remodeling a resident’s home while the gates at the airport are closed.
- Vacation homes in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise DLC can be remodeled without any issues.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons and its Happy Home Paradise DLC are immediately available on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo also released a free update that adds farming, cooking, and a new cafe.
