This trailer marks the first time we’ve really seen Bayonetta 3. It first came up during The Game Awards 2017. At the time, a brief logo trailer appeared. Since then, Director Hideki Kamiya offered updates saying it was progressing and wasn’t canceled. Ahead of the September 2021 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo’s official Japanese website updated and showed a 2022 release window for the game. Pre-orders also opened at Best Buy.
The announcement and reveal came following the seventh anniversary of Bayonetta 2. It appeared on the Wii U back on September 20, 2014. Masahiro Sakurai, the Super Smash Bros Ultimate director, even shared a screenshot to mark the occasion.
