Square Enix published an interview with Final Fantasy VII Remake Story and Scenario Writer Kazushige Nojima about his work on Final Fantasy VII Remake novel, Trace of Two Pasts. The interview delved into the content within the novel, along with where the events of the novel sit within the overall timeline of the Final Fantasy VII extended universe. [Thanks, aitaikimochi!]
In the interview, Nojima was asked if there are any important things to note about Final Fantasy VII Trace of Two Pasts. Nojima responded by saying:
As you know, the scenario of Final Fantasy VII is comprised of several different works, with each time something new is added turning into a setting or episode. However, these elements have been reconstructed in Final Fantasy VII Remake, with this novel using this title as a base instead.
This falls in line with a previous interview with Co-Director and Scenario Designer Motomu Toriyama, who suggested Final Fantasy VII Remake takes place within a different world. The interview appeared in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania, which also shed a light on other various aspects of the title. This included a suggestion that everything is not as it seems within the universe of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
