The flight shooting game was released on three different platforms in January 2019. Its sales number have steadily increased since then. Bandai Namco reported in June 2020 that Ace Combat 7 sold over two million units with physical shipments and digital sales combined. It also marked another milestone of 2.5 million units around the game’s second anniversary in January 2021.

At the Ace Combat 25th Anniversary digest show, which aired the day before this milestone on August 18, 2021, Project Aces revealed that it is working on more Ace Combat 7 content. A free title update will add popular series tracks in Multiplayer maps and aircraft skins from the Japan Air Self-Defense Force on August 31, 2021. The team will also release two more paid DLC packs at a later date.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is immediately available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Bandai Namco has also revealed that it is working with ILCA to develop a new game using Unreal Engine 5.
