By February 2008, Japan should be finishing up Final Fantasy IV DS just in time for the sequel. The awkwardly named, Final Fantasy IV: The After delves into post-Zeromus events past Cecil’s marriage to Rosa. Their son, Theodore, is the protagonist and he jets off to the moon. Unfortunately, the project seems far from North American shores because Square-Enix is designing it as a mobile phone game.
While our cell phone technology is only up to par for Final Fantasy VII: Snowboarding, we can hope that Square-Enix USA includes the Final Fantasy IV follow up in the North American version of Final Fantasy IV DS. I would happily wait longer for Matrix Software to squeeze in the extra story. Also there is always the off chance Final Fantasy IV: The After gets a port to another platform. It’s not like Square-Enix is against that kind of thing, Front Mission 2089: Border of Madness is in development for the DS.
