Metroid Dread Adds Sliding and a Phantom Cloak

More information about the new Metroid appeared in the E3 2021 Nintendo Treehouse Live. In Metroid Dread, Samus is being stalked by and has to deal with E.M.M.I. Galactic Federation robots. If caught, she’ll face certain doom. However, the MercurySteam will feature new mechanics to help her deal with them. Metroid Dread will add sliding and a Phantom Cloak for Samus.

Each E.M.M.I. robot has its own area to patrol. They have a detection zone, which lets them see her movement and hear her sounds. If she doesn’t move or hides behind an object, she won’t be detected. However, if one does show up, she can use the Metroid Dread Phantom Cloak to temporarily hide. She can also a new sliding to avoid them in Metroid Dread. This will come in handy, as the door will lock and turn red when an E.M.M.I. has Samus in its sights.

Some of Samus’ other moves were announced. She has a free aim ability in Metroid Dread. This will make it easier for people to shoot down opponents. You can also use the Spider Magnet to avoid the E.M.M.I. to cling to a wall and climb it. She also has melee attacks to use. People could use a melee attack to dash into or counter an enemy attack.

As mentioned earlier, Nintendo revealed MercuryStream is developing Metroid Dread. It is working on the game with Metroid Team. It previously worked on Metroid: Samus Returns for the Nintendo 3DS. The developer also worked on the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series for Konami.

Metroid Dread will come to the Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2021. There will also be amiibo of Samus and E.M.M.I.
