Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy Game Announced

Square Enix’s Summer Showcase stream at E3 2021 hosted the world premiere of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a new game based on the titular team of cosmic superheroes. Developed by Eidos Montreal, the game will feature a new, original take on the team, though it appears to be heavily based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe iteration of the group.

The announcement was accompanied by footage of the game in action.

The trailer shows off the Guardians, led by Peter “Star-Lord” Quill. Characters like Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot were all present. Mantis also made a quick appearance in one cutscene. A gameplay demonstration showed players in control of Star-Lord for the duration and highlighted some of his abilities. Players can also call in attacks from the rest of the Guardians to take down enemies.

A developer featurette for Guardians of the Galaxy was also released, which included insights and interviews with the developers working on the game.

Guardians of the Galaxy is currently in development and scheduled for release on October 26, 2021. It will be available on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Square Enix also published and released Marvel’s Avengers in August 2020.
