Nintendo Switch sales have exceeded over 20 million units in Japan. Famitsu revealed this information, and stated that it was aggregated from the release of the Nintendo Switch in 2017 to June 2, 2021. These numbers purely reflect domestic sales for the Nintendo Switch and are only applicable to Japan. Previously in a financial report from Nintendo, the company revealed that the console had shipped approximately 84.59 million units worldwide. The number increased significantly from a previous report in November 2020. That report revealed that Nintendo Switch sales had reached roughly 60 million units worldwide.
As mentioned previously, the article also listed the top five best selling Nintendo Switch games within Japan based on their physical versions. These are:
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 6,778,146 units
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 4,285,272 units
- Pokemon Sword and Shield – 4,052,668 units
- Splatoon 2 – 3,868,221
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 3,844,200 units
The article mentions that Animal Crossing: New Horizons still retains the highest cumulative sales total for a Switch game for its physical version.
