Square Enix revealed a new game in the Dragon Quest series titled Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate. The game was announced in the Dragon Quest 35th anniversary special live stream, along with new information on the series’ upcoming lineup.
The game will reportedly be a “darker take” on the series. Additionally, the game will feature a newly revamped “command battle” system that will be different from previous iterations. While there is currently no confirmed release date or platform, the game is planned to release simultaneously worldwide.
Here’s the initial teaser trailer for Dragon Quest XII. While no gameplay is shown, it does offer a look at the new logo.
The most recent mainline release in the Dragon Quest franchise was Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age back in 2017. That was also ported to the PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in December 2020. Dragon Quest XI has since sold 6 million units worldwide.
