Daigo Umehara Discharged From Hospital After Battling COVID-19

Pro gamer Daigo Umehara confirmed that he has left the hospital after a fight with COVID-19. Umehara shared the news via his official Twitter account following two weeks of silence. He first informed fans that he contracted the virus on May 7, 2021.

The veteran of the fighting game community posted an update in English and Japanese to his respective Twitter accounts. Both of the tweets Daigo Umehara posted mention receiving treatment for COVID, and his gratitude to the medical team. He did not give an update regarding his return to professional gaming activities.

Daigo Umehara stated he began feeling COVID symptoms on May 5, 2021. After getting a test immediately, he received results the following day that he had contracted the virus. When he shared the news on May 7, he was only self-quarantining and resting at home. Based on his latest information, at some point, he required hospitalization. He was silent on his Twitter accounts during this period.

Umehara left the hospital on May 22, 2021. He is one of the world’s most famous Street Fighter players.
