Bandai and FuRyu Corporation have announced that the Battle Spirits TCG will move from the tabletop to the big screen with Battle Spirits: Connected Battlers. The game will release on the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch in Winter 2021. A preview site also went live for interested parties to keep up with news.
Bandai also uploaded a 30-second-long teaser video onto YouTube. It can be viewed here:
At less than a minute, there is not much information in the video. It introduces the protagonist, Toya Nijimiya, and his rival, Yu Shiratori. It also shows a few shots of how the TCG will play in-game and how the table is laid out.
According to the official Battle Spirits Twitter, Battle Spirits: Connected Battlers will feature a tutorial for beginners to the TCG, so players won’t need prior knowledge. There is also an online mode for those who wish to play against other people.
Battle Spirits: Connected Battlers will be the fifth Battle Spirits video game. None of the previous ones made it outside of Japan. There is also no news as of yet whether Bandai has plans to release this game in other territories.
The Battle Spirits TCG came out in September 2008 as a joint effort between Bandai and Sunrise. Though it had an American release in 2009, it suffered from a lack of publicity and inaccurate translation. The game is only printed in Japanese. Battle Spirits also has nine anime series dedicated to the card game.
Battle Spirits: Connected Battlers will come out on the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch in Winter 2021. There are currently no announcements regarding a worldwide release.
