There will be more options for Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming in 2021. Microsoft announced an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate limited beta that will allow people to use Xbox Cloud Gaming on iOS devices. This will be an invitation-only trial and include not only those phones and tablets, but also Windows 10 PCs. People will start getting invites on April 20, 2021.
The announcement included some details about how playing on the go will work in this limited beta. People who test out console games with Xbox Cloud Gaming on an iOS device or Windows 10 PC will need to use Chrome, Edge, or Safari to play the game. Controllers are optional, as there may be touchscreen control options for some games. As a reminder, Microsoft recommended a 5Ghz wi-fi or mobile connection when the Android version launched.
Microsoft also touched on future plans for wider Xbox Cloud Gaming compatibility. The announcement noted that it will be open to everyone with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate “in the coming months.”
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer also commented on the possibility of PC games showing up for Xbox Cloud Gaming. On Twitter, he noted it will eventually happen after the console game rollout.
Yes, Azure helps. One of the reasons we push for cross save, don’t want players to have to decide which version of a Cloud game they play unless they want to. Progress needs to just move with your account, same with community. But PC games will come, focused on console games now.
