The title appeared in Jump Festa articles back in 2019, when it was supposed to launch. The game never released, but the company announced it was again developing it in November 2020. To commemorate opening pre-registration, Mobcast Games launched a renewed website and released a web commercial with singer Maki Goto.

The upcoming title will be free-to-play with optional microtransactions. The game will be an action-RPG with leveling mechanics. Mobcast Games is currently running a promotion where players can earn bonus in-game currency. Depending on how many people pre-register for the title, the developer will give out the tentatively-named Rurimaru. The first milestone will net players 150 Rurimaru if 50,000 people pre-register.

Yu Yu Hakusho Genkai Battle Spirits will release on Android and iOS devices in Japan. Additionally, the IP is making a comeback in more ways than one. Netflix and Toho Studios are currently in pre-production of a live-action Yu Yu Hakusho series.
