NieR Replicant April Fools Video Reimagines Game As a Slow Life RPG

Square Enix released a new April Fools video for NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, which advertises the game as a “Slow Life RPG.” The trailer, revealed via YouTube on April 1, 2021, features scenes of the protagonist farming crops and fishing on the beach, as well as shots of the local nature and wildlife. Accompanied by slow and melodic music, the trailer showcases the less action-oriented aspects of the game. Gameplay footage was shown of the sprawling desert area, the sun-bleached coastal Seafront, and the grassy Northern Plains. Spliced between scenes are tongue-in-cheek title cards, such as “interacting with wildlife,” “facing off against fish,” and “quirky local inhabitants,” with the last card titled “Slow Life RPG.”

Additionally, Nier can also be seen riding a Boar, just like in the original NieR Replicant. Fishing, as well as farming in Nier’s garden also make an appearance. Finally, we get a few glimpses of Nier talking to the “local inhabitants,” including a few villagers from the Aerie and some masked people from the Facade.

The April fools trailer is the first official glimpse at the remaster’s side quests and activities, and it looks as though they will get the same visual upgrades as the rest of the game. Previously, Square Enix released gameplay footage of the Barren Temple, as well as some of the combat during Tokyo Game Show back in September 2020.
