The Tokyo Babylon 2021 anime has been canceled due to accusations regarding plagiarism. The official website for the animated adaptation released a statement in full regarding the situation. As a result, the current series will be discontinued and official websites and social media accounts attached to the project will be closed on April 30, 2021. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
Originally, one allegation of plagiarism had been brought to light regarding a character design for Tokyo Babylon 2021. However, numerous other instances of plagiarism were found shortly after. This led to an official investigation, which revealed that there were several other stolen concepts or character designs. The official website states that while two were originally pointed out, many others were discovered during the investigation.
After discussions with CLAMP, it was decided that the current production studio, GoHands, would be removed from the project. Due to these instances of plagiarism the Tokyo Babylon 2021 anime has been canceled. However, CLAMP still has plans to create an adaptation of the Tokyo Babylon manga. CLAMP is currently looking for another studio to handle the adaptation. The statement closes with an apology to the fans who may have been looking forward to the adaptation.
Tokyo Babylon 2021 was scheduled to debut in April 2021.
