At the beginning of March 2021, the Cooking Mama Cookstar PS4 version surfaced again. Target pre-orders opened and the social media accounts even began teasing its upcoming appearance. Now, it turns out people can even get it digitally, as Cooking Mama Cookstar is available via the PlayStation Store for $39.99.
This comes following legal issues between Planet Entertainment, the game’s publisher, and Office Create, who owns the IP and develops the game. In April 2020, Office Create issued a statement on the Cooking Mama Cookstar PS4 release that noted it didn’t develop or license the game. It also referred to the possible title as an “unauthorized PS4 version.”
However, the PlayStation Store page for Cooking Mama Cookstar does mention a new publisher. Koch Media’s Ravenscourt division is behind this version of the game. The fine print also mentioned that it is licensed by Office Create and showed the Planet Entertainment trademark.
As a reminder, you can’t get the Switch version of the game digitally. The rights dispute resulted in its removal. Physical copies can still be found at stores.
Cooking Mama Cookstar is available physically and digitally via the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 4. That version of the game is also compatible with the PlayStation 5. It is available physically for the Nintendo Switch.
