KOF XV Character Designer Talked About the Return of Yuri’s Braid

When it comes to The King of Fighters XV, SNK sometimes shares development insights after trailers launch. Now that we’ve seen the return of Yuri Sakazaki in her KOF XV trailer, the company offered insight into her design direction this time around. Namely, Character Designer Tomohiro Nakata talked about her hairstyle and the return of her braid.

When bringing it up, Nakata mentioned the “cuteness” and “nostalgia” the return to the older hairstyle offers. Here’s the full statement from Twitter about her look.

Yuri’s back sporting her braids again. I think they help bring out a different kind of cuteness she has besides her cute and sporty tomboy look in the previous game. She’s actually appeared many times before in KOF with a braid, so I hope seeing her back to her usual self gives you a sense of nostalgia.

As mentioned before, Yuri isn’t the only KOF XV fighter Nakata’s elaborated on after a reveal. The designer also expressed nervousness after working on Iori, Andy’s “beefiness,” the use of color with Chizuru, and Kyo’s outfit.

KOF XV is in development and will launch on unspecified platforms in 2021. New character trailers and announcements have been appearing on a weekly basis.
