Nintendo announced a new SSBU tournament with characters that transform, like Pyra and Mythra. The news comes from the official Japanese Twitter account for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. In this challenge, players will only be able to use fighters that change their appearance significantly. The tournament will go live on March 12, 2021 and will last for three days.
Nintendo often promotes characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate with limited-time events in in-game modes like Tournament mode. This time around, the rules indicate that players can only choose characters who transform, become a different fighter, or change what they are wearing entirely. The more battles the player wins, the more spirits they will obtain. In addition to Pyra and Mythra, the promotional image shows off SSBU characters like Joker in his Phantom Thief and school uniform, male and female Inklings, and male and female Byleth.
For fans of SSBU‘s latest DLC fighters Pyra and Mythra, Siliconera translated some highlights from Masahiro Sakurai’s latest Famitsu column. Sakurai explained Nintendo’s decision to include the two Blade characters instead of Rex. Additionally, Sakurai mentioned the difficulties that the development team faced when attempting to implement Rex in an Ice Climbers fashion.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is available now for the Nintendo Switch, and the new challenge will run March 12-15, 2021. The SSBU DLC for Pyra and Mythra is included in the second Fighter Pass, which players can purchase for $29.99. The two-in-one fighters are also available for individual sale at $5.99.
