Square Enix Ever Crisis Trademark Filed in the U.S.

The possibly Final Fantasy-related Square Enix Ever Crisis trademark appeared in another country. This one might hit close to home for some people, as the United States is the latest one. The WIP IP Portal shows Square Enix filed for it with the US Patent and Trademark Office on February 4, 2021. [Thanks, Gematsu!]

This marks the fourth major appearance of this trademark since January 2021. Originally, Square Enix filed for Ever Crisis, The First Soldier, and Shinra in Japan. Later that month Canadian and European filings appeared. It also called dibs on it in Australia. In each case, the trademarks apply to video games, though in some regions they also apply to books, toys, and “amusement facility-related products.

Square Enix hasn’t offered any hints about what this could be. However, the word “crisis” features prominently in a number of Final Fantasy VII games. Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII is the mobile-only, Japan-exclusive prequel that followed Shinra’s Turks prior to the events of the game. (Tseng, Reno, and Rude featured prominent roles, while characters like Elena and Rufus also appeared.)

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII appeared on the PlayStation Portable and was another prequel. That one starred Zack Fair, another SOLDIER, and offered insight into Sephiroth’s life before the events in Nibelheim.

There’s something else to keep in mind when it comes to the Square Enix Ever Crisis trademark. The exclusivity period for Final Fantasy VII Remake is about to expire on April 10, 2021.
