Something might be happening involving both Super Mario and Ubisoft’s odd rabbits again. On January 27, 2021, the official Twitter account for the characters changed from “RabbidsOfficial” to “MarioRabbids.” Since then, the account has returned to its normal name. This has led to speculation that a new game featuring these characters could be in the works. [Thanks, So_Ethereal and Choppasmith on Resetera!]
Here’s So_Ethereal’s tweet, which showed the change. It was accompanied by a themed avatar and Wow, apparently the official account of the Rabbids turned from @/RabbidsOfficial to @mariorabbids! Will we finally get the sequel of Mario Rabbids we desired? Let’s hope so! 😍🔥🎉#MarioRabbids #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/2LM3QhRUaD — 🌟 Ezereal 🌟 #Nintendo (@So_Ethereal) January 27, 2021 Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle showed up on the Nintendo Switch in 2017. It is an XCOM-like strategy game where the Rabbids end up in the Super Mario world. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi end up working with Rabbid versions of all four characters to deal with enemies like Bowser Jr. It eventually got a Donkey Kong-themed expansion. Aside from the additional add-on, no follow-ups were announced. However, Ubisoft did initially offer support for things like community competitions for active players. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is available for the Nintendo Switch worldwide.
