Kadokawa Games’ second entry in the Root series has a release date. People outside Japan will be able to play Root Film on March 19, 2021. Digital and physical copies will be available. There will also be a Limited Edition that includes an art book.
As a reminder, Root Film is an adventure game set in Matsue in Japan’s Shimane Prefecture. (This means you’ll see real-world places, just like in the original Root Letter.) While trying to get a chance to participate in a Shimane Mystery Drama Project reboot, Rintaro Yagumo gets caught up in a whole new mystery. You then have to explore places and interrogate people to find out what’s going on and explain deaths. You’ll also have a better chance of seeing the whole story via “zapping.” This lets you see another person’s view on specific events.
To help better illustrate what Root Film is like, there’s a new trailer. This video sets the stage for the story. Then, it shows off the choices you’ll make and investigations you’ll take part in.
Root Film will appear for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on March 19, 2021 outside Japan. People with PS4 copies will also be able to play it on the PS5. It is immediately available in Japan. There are also demos available for the adventure in Japanese storefronts.
