Katsuhiro Harada Wants to Make A Pokkén Tournament Sequel

Katsuhiro Harada, known for his work as a director on the Tekken franchise and producer of Pokkén Tournament, tweeted that he would like to work on a Pokkén Tournament sequel at some point in the future. Whether or not that happens isn’t up to him, though.

According to the tweet, the decision isn’t up to him, saying that, “…it’s not what we decide, it’s what they decide.” The “we” in this statement is likely Pokkén Tournament’s developer, Bandai Namco Entertainment, as Harada serves in the role of general manager for the company. Harada also said that the game was well-received before adding that they have a good relationship with Nintendo and Pokemon Co, Ltd.

Pokkén Tournament is a fighting game that plays out in both 2D and 3D phases. In addition to their main Pokémon, players can call in Assist Pokémon to help out in combat. The original version of the game released in arcades in July, 2015 and for the Nintendo Wii worldwide on March 18, 2016. An enhanced port for the Nintendo Switch, entitled Pokkén Tournament DX, released the following year. Since then, the title has received some DLC fighters like Blastoise, Mew, and Celebi.

Tekken, another Bandai Namco Entertainment fighting game, recently made a cameo appearance in Astro’s Playroom for the PlayStation 5. Harada contributed as a supervisor for this portion of the game.
