PS5s Ask If People Want to Play a Game’s PS4 or PS5 Version Now

A new PlayStation 5 quality of life feature appeared, and it is designed to make it easier to play exactly the games you want. While the system offers backwards compatibility, there’s another element to consider with some of its launch titles. There are a lot of PS4 and PS5 cross-platform games. Which means if someone has one, there might be a specific version they want. Now, whenever you play, a prompt ensures you get the one you’d prefer. [Thanks, Tidux and Video Game Chronicle!]

Here’s how the new feature works. Let’s say you select a game like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which is a PS5 cross-platform game. When you select it, the prompt will come up asking which version you want to play. Say you have the PS4 one installed, but owning it grants you access to the PS5 one. It will ask if you want to play the PS4 version or if you’d prefer to switch to the native version of the game.

Just remember that saves from certain PS4 that have PS5 cross-platform compatibility might not automatically work with the updated version. For example, both Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure have an in-game save transfer process you have to go through.
