Sega released a new video of the opening cinematic for the upcoming MMORPG, Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis. The company also revealed the key art, featuring a player character standing before a brand new world. The MMO service will launch sometime in 2021 for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in Japan. [Thanks, Game Watch Impress!]
Both the opening cinematic and the key art emphasize the new game’s complete overhaul of the original Phantasy Star Online 2. The promotional video shows player characters running through vast, open fields and taking down an enormous beast with exhilarating actions. This video is different from previous Phantasy Star Online 2 videos, in that it is not using pre-rendered footage. The opening cinematic here uses in-engine graphics. Sega gave the character models a quality boost and even included English voices, too. The video is available below in 4K and 60fps.
In addition, Sega announced that it will hold several closed beta tests in Japan for Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis. Readers who reside in Japan and have played Phantasy Star Online 2 on PCs can apply to be part of the testing team through January 4, 2021.
