Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny doesn’t just have a release date in Japan, it has a whole other platform. When NIS America announced the game during the September 2020 Nintendo Direct Mini, it referred to it as a console exclusive. Even the online storefront only has the Switch Limited Edition up for sale. However, in Japan the Disgaea 6 PS4 and Switch versions will both go on sale on January 28, 2021.
This information appeared in the Japanese version of the trailer. It’s mostly identical to the one that aired worldwide. However, the last 30 seconds is where things change. That’s when the Japanese release dates and platforms confirmed it will arrive earlier in Japan than the “Summer 2021” window for the rest of the world and it will show up on the PS4.
Here’s the Japanese version of the launch trailer.
The end of the footage also confirms a collector’s edition for Japan too. It will include a copy of the game’s soundtrack and an art book. (The domestic limited edition does as well.) In Japan, that version will cost 10,200円 (~$97).
Disgaea 6 PS4 and Switch versions will launch in Japan on January 28, 2021. The western version will come to the Switch in Summer 2021.
