The year is 2022 and you’ll once again step forward as an EDF soldier to battle against endless hordes of giant bugs and aliens to restore peace to the earth. The fifth main-numbered entry is considered the most jam-packed entry yet with more missions and weapons than previous EDF games. Furthermore, it supports online co-op of up to four players, for all missions.
Earth Defence Force 5 is currently available for the PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam. The physical PS4 copies of Earth Defense Force 5 will release in North America and Europe on October 16, 2020. The next entry, Earth Defense Force 6, was announced in June and is set to invade in 2021. A new voxel game spinoff called Earth Defense Force: World Brothers is also in development and set to launch in 2021 for PS4 and Switch.
