Genshin Impact is getting closer and closer to its launch on September 28, and earlier this week miHoYo revealed a bit more information that might be important to those planning to play the game on multiple platforms. While cross-play will be available in Genshin Impact, as previously announced, there will be some limitations on save data transfer between platforms.
Specifically, this refers to the PlayStation 4 version of the game. On Twitter, miHoYo explained that while Traveler account and save data can be transferred between PC, iOS, and Android, you will not be able to transfer save data to PlayStation 4, nor vice versa. No reasons were provided for this limitation. It is currently unknown if this will be the same case with the Nintendo Switch version, which is currently in development.
That said, although there are limitations for save data transfer, the game is fully cross-platform compatible as featured. PlayStation 4 owners and PC, iOS, and Android owners will all be able to host and join rooms for other platform players. While the game is primarily single-player for its story and exploration, the game features dungeons that offer players a chance to team up with other players in real-time.
The Genshin Impact PS4, PC, Android, and Apple iOS versions will launch on September 28, 2020. A Nintendo Switch version is also in development, though it doesn’t have a release date yet. The full game will be free-to-play, so the paid Adventurer’s Start Bundle is completely optional. Check out PlayStation 4 exclusives and a Starter Bundle in our previous report here.
