On August 10, 2020, Aniplex and Delightworks were teasing a “mysterious” spinoff app for Fate/Grand Order, but as of August 11, 2020, the secret is out. The mobile app code-named “#FGOW” is actually Fate/Grand Order: Waltz in the Moonlight/Lostroom. It’s actually a rhythm game.
Here’s the official trailer:
Players of Fate/Grand Order Waltz will tap the screen in time to the rhythm while watching Mash perform various songs and dances. Good performances will earn currency that can be used to unlock alternate costumes for Mash to wear. Other items might also be available to use in the VR-like portion of the game teased earlier, where players hang out with their Shielder-class companion in the Lost Room, a secret location in Chaldea base where “past overlaps with future.” The game will feature a story penned by the core FGO narrative team, as well as music selected from the main game in addition to new pieces.
Unfortunately for fans who want to go full Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA with FGO characters, Fate/Grand Order Waltz is a limited release with only 550,000 downloads available on the Japan Google Play and Apple App Stores. Those were quickly snapped up by eager Masters. As of now, the only option is to add the game to one’s wishlist and hope Aniplex opens it up again.
In the meantime, those fast-fingered early adopters have posted some gameplay footage from the early stages. Check out the below recordings from users Kyuu and Mukuron for a glimpse at the tutorial and first song:
Fate/Grand Order: Waltz in the Midnight/Lostroom is available on iOS and Android devices. Check out more updates from the Japanese edition’s 5th Anniversary celebrations.
