Hints about a Mega Man movie first came up in 2015 and, while there are no new details, there is news about possible news. As part of the whole Comic Con at Home endeavor, which is being held in place of the 2020 San Diego Comic Con, IGN conducted an interview with Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, directors of the upcoming project. While they didn’t have an announcement, Joost said, “I think we’re gonna have some big news about it soon.”
Here’s the full statement from Joost from the interview. First, he talks about how Mattson Tomlin, from Project Power, was brought on to write the script for the Mega Man movie. (This was confirmed in January 2020.) Then, he talks about the “big news” potentially being revealed in the near future.
We [Joost and Schulman] had such a great time working with Mattson [Tomlin] on Project Power that we invited him in to help us out with Mega Man. We’re super excited about it.
I think we’re gonna have some big news about it soon. I can’t say all that much right now, but it’s a project very near and dear to our hearts and we’re psyched.
Here’s the full IGN interview segment discussing the movie with Joost and Schulman.
After the 2015 hints about the project, final negotiations regarding the movie occurred in 2017. While people involved haven’t been very vocal about the project, Capcom did confirm in 2019 that it is in development and Tomlin was revealed as the script’s co-writer in January 2020. Another prominent person attached to the project is Masi Oka, who is acting as its producer.
The Mega Man movie is in development.
