One of the interesting Mega Man series has a pretty major birthday coming up. A Mega Man Battle Network anniversary in 2021, to celebrate the spin-off series turning 20. It seems like Capcom could want to do something to honor the occasion, because the Japanese official site is looking for licensing partners. [Thanks, Rockman Corner!]
It is important to note that this call for companies interested in Mega Man Battle Network only applies to potential products for its anniversary. It doesn’t relate to games. It mentions how the company would want things like clothing, figures, food, or toys. To give an idea of what this could mean, there’s often Mega Man-themed candy around, with mints even available at GameStop. Back in the day, there were replica PETs with Battle Chips, like the one Lan would use, and toys. The 15th anniversary of the series was celebrated with things like a plush toy and an announcement of a MegaMan.EXE Nendoroid.
Mega Man Battle Network originally appeared on the Game Boy Advance worldwide in 2001. However, it eventually showed up on the Wii U worldwide as a Virtual Console game. While Capcom has yet to release a new installment in the main series past the Game Boy Advance’s Mega Man Battle Network 6, other games like One Step from Eden have taken inspiration from the series.
