Indie game developer Edmund McMillen, who people might know from games like Super Meat Boy, The End is Nigh, and The Binding of Isaac, has provided a massive collection of updates on his upcoming games and expansions on Twitter. There’s a mix of good news and bad news here. For example, people might be upset to hear that the last The Binding of Isaac DLC has been delayed as a result of COVID-19, but happy to hear that Mewgenics is in active development.
McMillen first noted that the goal was to have The Binding of Isaac Repentance, the final piece of The Binding of Isaac DLC, available for players before Summer 2020 ended, but the pandemic ended up delaying it, much like other games, so it might not make that window He said that some of the last things that need to be implemented include some bosses, cutscenes, and items.
When it came to Mewgenics’ status, McMillen had even more details to share. The cat breeding game has a new screenshot, showing off what appears to be a turn-based fight against a blobby cat boss. Tyler Glaiel, who also worked on McMillen’s The End is Nigh, is working on it as a programmer. Krystal Fleming, who worked on The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth and the Four Souls card game, is an artist on it focusing on background art. Other frequent McMillen collaborator Ridiculon, who worked on The Binding of Isaac and The End is Nigh soundtracks, is composing Mewgenics’ soundtrack. The animator is @k50pMD.
Finally, both The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls and The Legend of Bum-bo have updates. The former’s Mega expansion will begin development when the last The Binding of Isaac DLC is released. The tweet about The Legend of Bum-bo said a new developer is handling PC updates and both the Nintendo Switch and Apple iOS ports.
The Binding of Isaac: Repentance add-on is in development, but may miss its Summer 2020 release window. Mewgenics is in development for PCs. The Legend of Bum-bo’s Nintendo Switch and Apple iOS ports are in development.
