Scenario Writer Kazushige Nojima Talks About His Inspirations for Final Fantasy VII Remake’s Hollow

Story and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima recently shared his inspirations for the Final Fantasy VII Remake “Hollow” theme song in an interview with Famitsu. Not only did Nojima help write the new scenario for the remake, but he also wrote the lyrics for the track. This isn’t his first instance of writing songs for the Final Fantasy series, though. His other contributions have been “Suteki Da Ne” and “1,000 Words” from Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, respectively. In the interview he detailed the process of writing “Hollow” and the feelings he wanted to invoke. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

In the Famitsu interview, Nojima said that he considered the song to be about “a man who has lost something important.” He went on to say that the tentative title for the song was originally “Hollow Cloud,” however the team eventually decided on the title of “Hollow” for Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s theme song. He also mentioned that the one word he wanted to include in the title was “Hollow,” which made the name stick.

Since the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake, numerous developer interviews have been released. However, the ones translated from the Ultimania have garnered the most attention.
