Welcome back to Collector’s Corner! Brainstorming for this installment led to a light bulb moment: If I were going to be reckless with my stimulus money, what stupidly expensive figures could I buy? So I scoured the internet and came up with my top five, preorder-ready, game and anime scale figures. Let’s all watch our wallets cry together, shall we?
Let’s kick things off with a couple of anime scale figures. I am not ashamed to say that this first figure is here because I like the view. Cobra the Space Pirate, from Cobra, fights his way into contention with a cigar dangling from his lips and Psychogun at the ready. I found this well-defined specimen for preorder on Tokyo Otaku Mode with an August 2020 date and $271.99 price tag.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is one of Studio Ghibli’s most beloved anime masterpieces. And though it may have been years since I last sat down to watch it, I was drawn to this articulated, anime scale figure of Royal Yanma from Sentinal. 35 centimetres from head-to-tail, you’ll be able to create some wonderful flying poses with this figure. The metallic blues pop alongside its well-sculpted wings. I think it might be worth the $250 or so that AmiAmi is currently asking for it. Would you agree?
Dead by Daylight has developed a real cult following. While I was surprised by how adorable a Nendoroid Trapper is, his true calling is to live next to your bed in 1/6 scale and scare the bejeebus out of you at 4am. He is downright gory. Bloodstained in all the right places, you can display him with weapons in hand or propped up on his base. Trapper will set you back $359.99, heading to a campground near you this summer.
We’ve seen some pretty nice figures of Wolf from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice popping up lately. The figure I want to show you right now is this 1/6 scale offering from Gecco. Wolf is depicted as peering down from above, the wind blowing back his clothing. While the attention to detail is something else, just look at his prosthetic arm. So intricate, so well done. It makes me wish I had $469.99 burning a hole in my pocket. If you’re lucky enough to preorder Wolf, you will receive Loaded Axe and Flame Vent prosthetics as a bonus.
These Fate/stay night 15th Celebration Project scale figures of Saber, Rin, and Sakura coming in June 2021 are jaw droppingly stunning. Each waifu’s gown cascades from her hips while leaving those gorgeous legs exposed. And the bouquets! I require a real version of Saber’s bouquet in my office as soon as possible. For a cool $428.99 US, this trio comes in a special premium box and will include luxury items that haven’t even been revealed yet. If you’re a huge fan and are looking for an eye catching centerpiece for your Fate collection, this set is for you.
Did you make it through this post without spending a penny? I’m seriously considering selling plasma so I can afford that Wolf scale figure. How much plasma can I legally sell each month? Be right back. I have some research to do.
