Capcom released its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020 with record-high profits for the third consecutive year.
Capcom’s net sales were down 18.4% from the previous fiscal year at 81.59 billion yen, operating income saw a 25.8% increase at 22.8 billion yen. Ordinary income was 22.9 billion yen to put it up 26.2% from the previous fiscal year. Lastly, the net income for the fiscal year was 15.94 billion yen for an increase of 27.1% from the previous fiscal year.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne delivered a solid performance delivered by stable popularity. Other strong performers during the fiscal year include Monster Hunter: World, Resident Evil 2, and Devil May Cry 5.
Moving forward for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2021, Capcom anticipates net sales of 85 billion yen and operating income of 25.5 billion yen. By reaching the forecast, it would make it eight consecutive years of operating income growth and four consecutive years of record-high profit.
Digital Contents
The Digital Contents segment shows how Capcom’s video game sales performed in the last two business years. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne served as the key driver of profitability growth. Titles released in the previous fiscal year in Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 also saw a growth in sales. Monster Hunter: World which released two fiscal years ago also continued to show its long sales life.
Net sales in Digital Contents were 59.94 billion yen, down 27.8% from the previous fiscal year, due to an increase in the percentage of digital sales. Operating income was up 3.6% at 24.1 billion yen due to contributions from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and other catalog titles.
Arcades
Capcom worked on securing a wide range of customers through community-based promotions for Arcade Operations. The total number of arcade shops reached 40. Resulting net sales were 12 billion yen, an increase of 9.5% from the previous fiscal year. The operating income was 1.2 billion yen, an increase of 10.5% from the previous fiscal year.
Amusement Equipments (Pachislot, etc)
Lastly, we have the “Amusement Equipments” business segment, which mostly covers pachislot business. The pachislot business has been sluggish in recent years due to a revision in machine certification methods. Despite this, Shin Onimusha had a strong performance in the fiscal year for Capcom.
The company sees it as a sign that the market has finally bottomed out and is heading towards recovery. The resulting net sales were 6.5 billion to go up 90.9% from the previous fiscal year. The operating income was 2 billion yen, an operating loss of about 2.66 billion yen from the previous fiscal year.
