Khara Inc. released the Japanese version of the Rebuild of Evangelion movies for free online. People will be able to watch Evangelion 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 for free via the EVA-Extra smartphone app and the company’s Official Youtube channel. This release comes in light of the on-going COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The movies will appear on EVA-Extra until April 30, 2020. No cut-off date has been announced for the YouTube release. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
In addition to the free Rebuild of Evangelion movie streams, viewers will soon be able to hear an audio commentary project via the EVA-Extra app. It doesn’t have a release date yet. Please note that the audio commentary seems to be exclusive to EVA-Extra and may not be available on Khara’s Youtube streams.
Hideki Anno, the Chief Director, Producer, and Screenplay Writer for Rebuild of Evangelion, released a handwritten message. In it, he expressed his sympathy to all who have been affected by COVID-19 and his gratitude for all medical staff and personnel who are handling the global pandemic. He further mentioned that he understands fans have been waiting almost eight years for the final Evangelion movie and apologized for the additional Evangelion 3.0+1.0 delay. He ended the message by saying he’ll do his best to keep up everyone’s “indomitable spirits” up during this tough situation.
