With things being as they are, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has made a mark on the lives of people who suddenly find themselves with a lot of free time. Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson did an interview about it for Elle. Now the J. Paul Getty Museum is making it easier for famous works of art to appear as Animal Crossing designs.
It all came up on April 16, 2020, when the Getty museum’s official Twitter account shared its Animal Crossing art generator. People who visit the site, which uses the already established, open source Animal Crossing Pattern Tool made by Thulinma, DamSenViet, and Myumi, can tap into the museum’s art collection for Animal Crossing designs.
Hey #AnimalCrossing fans! Hang Van Gogh’s “Irises” on your wall, wear Manet’s “Spring” on your shirt, or decorate your island with ancient sculpture.

The catch is, people do need to be Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Once people have picked a piece of Getty artwork, they crop the section they’d like to have appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. All of Getty’s images are exported as Animal Crossing QR codes. You then use the Nooklink Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app to scan these in, one at a time. Once you’re in-game, you are able to download these Animal Crossing designs one-by-one and apply them to things.
Once one of these Animal Crossing QR codes has been scanned and added to your game, the sky’s the limit. In this installment, placing things on a wall, on the ground, on display on an easel, or as a clothing design aren’t the only options. The game allows you to customize many different pieces of furniture. So you could have a piece of art as a bedspread, use it as a cushion, or even place it on an in-game mug.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch. In the event people are looking for additional designs, be sure to check out Siliconera’s custom Castlevania, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Persona 5 outfits.
