The anime and game convention MomoCon 2020, which is held yearly in Georgia, has been officially canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The organizers revealed their plans to cancel the event in favor of prepping in order to make next year’s event even bigger and better.
This isn’t surprising, considering the amount of events that have now been canceled (such as GDC 2020) due to the various notices that prevent domestic travel or large gatherings. MomoCon 2020 was canceled after consideration with the venue and city partners in Georgia, as “it became clear that not holding the event over the originally scheduled dates was the right thing to do.” The organizers have confirmed that it will be returning on May 27-30, 2021 at the Georgia World Congress Center as usual.
The MomoCon organizers thanked everyone who has helped prepare this year’s event despite the cancellation, and those who have assisted them and will continue to assist them in preparation of the next event in 2021.
“Our vital work will continue in the days and weeks ahead,” they said.
MomoCon first began in 2005 as a convention hosted by Anime O-Tekku, Georgia Tech’s anime club. Since then, the event’s grown and become more and more large-scale, with more visitors coming every year. It is also known for gaming announcements, with people like Suda51 and developers like Inti Creates making announcements there in the past.
